We have seen top ten placements in google in a matter of weeks but all cases are different, especially
when a domain is brand new as google likes to wait around 6 months sometimes, a period known as the
google sandbox.
Why is it important to get sites into the top ten results for Google and Yahoo? Well simply as most
people don't bother looking past the first page. In fact it's claimed that 80% of search engine traffic
goes to sites on the first page of results. We've had our calculators out and have done further
investigating between some sites we have at Google results positions 1,2 and 3.
What we found is that the visitor percentages for the top ten positions are as follows - 1=19%, 2=14.
5%, 3=10%, 4=8.5% and the positions from 5 to 10 have an average of 8% traffic each. Remember that
19% for position 1 is the percentage of the overall 80% of traffic for the first page of results, meaning
that position 1 of page 1 gets 15.2% of visitors for that search term.
Based on this we can speculate that position number 1 on the 2nd page of results would give roughly
19% of the remaining 20%, which is a 3.8% overall click through rate for people searching the term in
question. Therefore the difference of being no.1 on the 1st page and no.1 on the page of search
engine results is 4 times the traffic at the top compared to the bottom end; deteriorating further and
further as we progress.
PPC (Pay Per Click) Advertising
Unlike many others what we don't rely on the use pay per click (ppc) or other form s of paid advertising,
like google adwords etc. We can do this if you want but we aim to get highly placed organic results
without extra ongoing costs for advertising. We find the cost of online advertising generally overprice
for the amount of traffic driven to a site, however there are always some exceptions especially in the
case of some targeted traffic.
Link Building
one of the techniques we use most. We don't ever buy links or use these schemes which provide
thousands of links instantly, this kind of thing is looked upon very badly by search engines and can
result in a site being banned. We take the natural organic approach to this, it is manual and does take
